Greetings to Mr. Frieson!

Just wondering what the thoughts were on Android (Java) versus iPhone (Objective-C) in the market place. Do you think Apple has any plans to offer an iPhone running Android? If they don't, and with the momentum Android is presently experiencing, will not opening it only further the Android cause? With the announcement that the iPhone will be offered on Verizon around the end/beginning of the year (I think a year earlier than previously rumoured) I can't help but wonder if this is an Apple step to retain market share. Which begs the question, How long before they open the platform a bit more?

It took decades before they opened the Macs to Intel & Windows.

What a wonderful world that would be for a Java enthusiast.

Thanks, Ed.

Um, what?

Why would Apple throw out their GUI in favor of the (still) inferior Android GUI? The chance of this happening in precisely zero. So far, the closed platform is working very well for them.

"Opened"? For Intel? For Windows? Well, this discussion is about Android vs. iPhone, so let's not stray from that.

Apple is absolutely, 100% certainly never going to make an iPhone that's running Android. Apple wants to strictly control the user experience and what apps are available on the iPhone, and that's why they have made it such a closed platform and why they so strictly control what apps are available in Apple's app store. They have never shown any interest at all in opening the iPhone platform.

Agreed that Apple is not interested. However, some folks were and they actually ported Android on iPhone back in March-Apr this year.
Not sure how good it was though.

They represent two very different business ideas, each with profit potential and therefore survival potential.

I've got no option but to sell you all for scientific experiments. Or a tiny ad:
