Hello Everyone

I am new to java language and also programming and I have to learn java programming right from the basic. So can someone let me know how much time does it take for me to give SCJP exam. I am planning to give it in the last week of December. Can someone guide me how to proceed in order to get success in the exam?

Thanks!!

Hi Divya, welcome to javaranch.

If you are completely new to programming, it can take you around 3-4 months to prepare for the exam. You might want to start with Head First Java book. For info regarding SCJP preparation, see the ScjpFaq...

I agree with 1 year. About 6 months to adjust to programing and 6 months for preparation at 8 hrs/day on an average. Dedication is highly required. It is huge to learn. The more you learn the more you get doubts..Its fun & pain.

hi Divya Kotamraju:

just by curiosity ! why would pass the SCJP if you are a complete beginner to programming !

that's said .. if you wish just the SCJP and that's all .. it may take you 6 months or so .. doing it the Hard way
but if you want to have STONG basis , you MUST pass by C first and then move to OOP like java.. believe me ..if you learn C you can learn anything in the bytes world

If you are completely new to programming i would suggest you start with SCJA.
if you are not completely new to programming but are new to Java then SCJP is possible but i would suggest not less than 6 month hard work.
