Today I submitted my assignment and went to a Prometric center to do my essay. Everything went well and I think the essay was no problem for me.

After I ended my test I went outside the testing room. The lady of the Prometric Center looked pitiful at me and gave me the Examination Score Report with the following written on it:

There are 4 questions in the exam. You answered 0 questions correctly which gives you a score of 0 %
Passing Score: 100% Your Score 0 % Test Status Fail

Hmmm. In my opinion there is no right or wrong answer on this essay. So I do not think this report is correct for my situation. I also think that the lady at the Prometric center does not know that. Am I right?

I'm a little dissapointed because I spent a lot of money and a lot of time into the project. Oracle and Prometric should be able to provide correct reports after the essay.

Has anyone of you also got 0 % of 100 % on the essay?

Best Wishes

Something is wrong - you don't get the answer right away after you finish - it has to be compared to the assignment and so on, it takes time. Unless you didn't write anytning / something got deleted in the process or you cancelled or whatever?

Hi Hubert,

The testing center is wrong, so I would contact them straight away to clarify things. I would also try to contact Oracle/Sun and ask if they can verify if they got your answers from the essay exam and if everything is ok for grading.

Kind regards,
Roel

Hi Hubert,
I would'nt worry. The exact same thing happened to me.

My guess is that Oracle do not/can not grade until all parts have been submitted, so I think you are ok.

When you think about it, one of the purposes of this exam is to cross reference your answers with your assignment, so they can not give you a grade until that process is undertaken. That has got to be a manual process.

When you submit your project and cross reference your prometrics exam things will work out.

Robert.

Hi Hubert,

i had the same experience - 0% printed on the piece of paper i got from the prometric test center. Happened just a few days ago. But after thinking about it i decided to ignore it. And because Oracle accepted my assignment i haven't thought about it any more. Oracle only accepts the assignment if you have done the essay exam.

Yeah, same thing happened to me too, I also took the essay exam this week. But when I went home, logged into the Prometric site and looked at the exam history, the status of the exam was listed as "Tested" not "Failed" or something like that, so as long as it is not failed I'm not starting to worry (yet).

What I don't understand is that this test is 238€ to take. This test with 4 questions is really the Step 2 ?

I gave my essay few days ago, I had the same result: 0% correct, fail. I understand that Sun/Oracle had to fit their essay exam into Prometric testing system, however I believe it would be more friendly of them to say that you passed essay with 100% correct, since even if you fail assignment, you never write essay again, thus you cannot fail the essay. You can fail the certification of course by failing the assignment.

I've just taken the exam and I agree with Elchin - it should be 100% (4/4) rather than 0% (0/4). It doesn't make any difference and it's definitely more user-friendly :-)

Hi guys,

The same for me and I got the look too. So I believe this is a common thing.

What happens to everyone when the essay exam is taken i.e. does everyone get a 0% score until the assignment is graded? or is it just some test centers that score you 0% until assignment is graded?

Thanks

Using my common sense I would think all testing centers are running the same exam software, so the same reports are generated, so everyone will get a 0% score report. But it is weird that a score is given on this exam. I can't remember getting a score report when I took my essay exam.

Yep! Indeed that should be the case. I just expected to find a lot more complaints about this when I searched the forum. So I started to think that it may differ by test center.

But it is weird that a score is given on this exam

Yea, tell me about it. It is even weirder the way the official at the testing center looks at you - thinking this person got 0%?

Anyways, I've submitted my assignment as well so it's the waiting game now. I hope to join the SCJD league soon

Thanks for your response.

That's why I specially asked the guy from test center about this 0% score and whether my essay is saved and sent to Sun He had no idea of course, but at least I am sure he did not assume that I am stupid (+ I am a foreigner here, which means bunch of stereotypes )

Incredible but true: today I found my examination score report of the essay exam I took on May 15, 2009 (in my wastepaper bin) and there is no score mentioned at all. Instead you can read:

This exam will be assessed with the programming assignment that you have already submitted to the Sun Microsystems Certification database. Both this exam and the programming assignment will be assessed together by an independent third party, and will take approximately 4 - 6 weeks to complete.

So I didn't receive any weird faces of the girl at the desk in the testing center
