Dear friends over at the ranch, I was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor and am currently undergoing treatment to fight it. Sadly and ironically I may be able to start an application that I had planned to evelop beforehand for the android platform to fight this scurge of diseases that at times are not curable. I wish to pass on my ideas to others to prevent things like this from taking lives unnecessarily especially with regards to cancers that are detectable at early stages before they progress to dangerous phases. Although my tumor has nothing to do with such cancers, it is breast cancer month and software is long overdue to remind both male and females to check their bits on a monthly basis to avoid any regret down the line. Such software, need only work on a timer( set for once a month) or may even be useful in a root OS scenario where it is installed directly in the OS.

Further I wished to enhance such an application with a feature to have a record of medical allergies and current medication that anyone may be on. Why? Well, imagine that you are in an accident one day and are allergic to a type of medication, but are unable to talk? Your phone could talk on your behalf. There are dangers though that need to be countered in the scenario of a handset being resold, so once again it may be better to build this in with any OS to pick up aim swaps etc.

Hope this helps some people in the future or the idea can help save lives.

Best regards and prayers are always welcome.

Let me start of with wishing you lots of strength in overcoming this disease. Please don't take it personally that this topic isn't getting lots of responses. It's a difficult topic and not everybody is comfortable talking about it.

About your solution. I'm sure that there are many initiatives to tackle this problem. Here in the Netherlands we have the "Elektronisch patiƫntendossier". Which is basically a network of databases with all your medical information. This way hospitals can access your information. But they still need to know your name. But here everybody needs to be able to show identification so that is usually no problem. Your phone could provide such information but that can be stolen/lost/ect. Storing all your information on your phone could be a privacy risk (phone gets stolen/lost). An easy solution would be injecting a chip into your body with an identification number. But I am not really keep on injecting stuff into my body so that is also not really a solution. I think that we could discuss this problem for ever and never reach a solution that is ideal.

About the checks. I don't think we should use software to remind people to do it. I think that we should properly educate them and make them realise why it should be done. In the end it is their decision to do or not to do it. There are many thinks that we should do in order to stay healthy; eat healthy, reduce your salt and sugar intake, exercise on a regular basis, measure blood values once every x years etc. But the number of people doing that is very low. I don't do it although I know I should. My excuse is that I'm young . But the point I'm trying to make is that we should change people instead of reminding them that they should change.

Regards,
Wouter

Another issue is that the timing for the checks may not be very useful. For example, for me, with no family history, the test that would have caught my case early isn't due for another five years.

Thank you all. I am making progress and I redid my site http://thejarbar.org and I put a ton of beginner vids on YouTube while on chemo.
