Dear Ranchers,

I am maintaining a j2ee web application that was built years ago. The jsp page does have java code. There is no ant or maven for building war files. Any change that I make to the java code, I compile them put the class files in the production server. What if the change is in the java code of the jsp file? How do I compile the jsp page? I tried making the changes to the java code in the jsp page. and restarted the apache tomcat server, but the application did not reflect the change. I just want to know if the procedure is right. Is that how generally jsp files with java code compiled?

Thanks

If Tomcat sees that the timestamp of your JSP file has changed (e.g. if you edited and saved the file), it should recompile it. You can check if it did, by looking into the "work" directory of Tomcat.
