Windows hosting Linux

Hi guys,
I think I am on the right forum.

Currently, I have windows on my laptop. I want windows to host a guest Linux (hopefully UBUNTU). I found a open source VM (Virtual Box) that can do it. Can my guest OS be UBUNTU. I need to still read up more into this.

Any added information on installing VM will be greatly appreciated.

I am running Fedore 13, Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10 in VirtualBox. Though I wish VirtualBox would make it easier to change the screen resolution - getting it to something other than 640x480 or 800x600 is always a source of frustration (it is simple under VMWare Server).

By the way, make sure you have plenty of RAM. I upgraded my laptop from 2GB to 4GB RAM. With the Ubuntu 10.10 VM running I am using over 3GB of RAM.

I run Ubuntu 10.04 as host and WinXP as guest. I bring up XP, right click on desktop and switch it to 1024x768 and then run in full screen mode. I have also installed the guest additions. The resolution is persisted across sessions.

No, it isn't. And it has been a few months since I installed Ubuntu 10.04 and went through this. I thought that before all I did was install the VirtualBox extensions, bump the graphics memory from 12MB to 64MB, resize the host window to the desired size, and then the new window size would show up as one of the options under Monitors | Resolution, but that didn't do the trick. Guess I'll need to google it again.
