Hi,

I'm using log4j 1.2.4. Does anyone out there have a script or tool that can parse a log4j file? I'm looking for something that can count the errors in my log file and show me the number of occurrences of that error and the accompanying stack trace.

Thanks, - Dave

Thanks but Chainsaw does not have the ability to give roll-up reports of how often errors occur. any other ideas are appreciated. Thanks, -

Hi Dave,

how about an ordinary scripting solution? It shouldn't be too difficult to do some basic analysis of log files.

You could use well-known UNIX command line tools like grep, awk or others. Or you could use a dynamic language like Groovy/Python/Ruby to analyze the log files which should be easy to do in these languages. This way it would be easier to integrate into a Java application if needed.
