Hello everyone! I am extremely new to Java programming and just finished my first course in school. The school had us doing UML's for the course and Netbeans was a requirement for the course as well, but NetBeans no longer supports UML's. Other students in the course had company provided UML tools and I simply typed mine up in MS Word.

I was hoping for advice on a direction for a decent UML tool. I have been pursuing the Ranch here for a bit and really like the community so far! I am especially fond of your no-giving-away-answers to promote learning! Take care everyone and have a great day!

Welcome to the Ranch
I have used ArgoUML and liked it, but other people will have different opinions. I have also used Cay Horstmann's "Violet", and got that to work nicely. Horstmann links to other UML editors on the "Violet" page.

I like StarUML

When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

Hi Jason,

I'd suggest red koda community as it's free for academic use. Easy to install and easy to use. When finished your diagram, you can copy & paste diagram to your MS word documents. You can download in here Free UML Tool

Hi Campbell,

Thank you. I hope you won't mind that I suggest Red Koda Community here as I'm the developer of it. Kind of conflict of interest. However, it's true that I use Red Koda at work. When I want to explain how the APIs works to customers/my colleagues, I'll create one or two sequence diagrams. I suggest Jason to use it because it's really cool!

Thanks everyone! I will definitely try out each one of these and give them all a nice test run to see which will work best for me.

Paul, I agree that as long as your open and honest about it, there is no conflict of interest! Your proud of your work and want to spread the word! I don't blame you a bit.
