I need to create the bold/italic Font size, functionalities in JSP page. This can be thought as similar to MS-WORD. there will be bold/italic font size buttons in the top portion of the jsp page. there is a text area . if the user clicks bold button then the text should become bold while he is typing. the same functionality as you get with any word editing tool. this is a critical requirement for me and any help would be deeply appreciated.

I saw the same functionality in the javaranch new topic posting page. even if some one could tell me how the javaranch has implemented the bold/italic functionalities in its input page it would be helpful.

This is done with JavaScript, not JSP. Do some research on "rich text editors" for JavaScript. Any questions you might have on that topic should be posted in the JavaScript forum, so I've moved this post there.

for this you need to take suppourt of 3rd Party javascripting functions that you need to incluse in your existing JSP Pages , just google and you will find any one of them , JSP + Rich Text Editors search may help you .

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
