Which UML version to use for Part 2?

The assignment only says, must be UML compliant.

But can I use UML 1.x, UML 2.x or mixed?

Becoz the UML tool that I am using doesn't seem to have all the shapes for UML 2.

By the way, I am using Gliffy as my modeling tool, it's online so I don't have to install anything. I just paid $5 per month subscription.

Thanks.

It is supposed to be UML 2 and they supposedly take off points for UML 1. I submitted in UML 2. I didn't want to have to pay $300 to retake for not honoring that requirement.

I used StarUML and whatever the version that comes with it. Should be sufficient.

Thanks for the info. Oh I didn't know that. StarUML component diagram notation is still UML 1.x style.

It is nowhere mentioned in the assignment that you require to submit the diagrams in UML 2.x and hence they can't reduce any marks for that.
Also, the exam objectives just say your diagrams should be UML compliant and nothing more than that.
And I don't think we need to follow the speculations from guides.
Whatever is mentioned in the assignment is the only thing we require to follow. If you had done fine with UML 1.x, I don't think there is any point in doing rework.
I too developed the assignment using star UML and component diagram is 1.x compliant.

"StarUML™ truly complies with UML 1.4 standards, UML 2.0 notation"

What does this mean?

To be on the safer side i would recommend going with UML 2.0.
I know where in the assignment - they talk about UML version-they just want to be UML compliant.
Mark Cade's book also has two version diagrams-1 and 2 and they talk about UML 2 instead.

If we go with UML 2-we can get better support as most of the current books in UML are for UML2 version.

I submitted my Class and Sequence Diagrams in UML 1.x
and my Deployment and Component Diagrams in UML 2.0 (primarily because the notations i needed for these diagrams were not available in UML 1.x)

I passed..

When i downloaded the assignment..it just read something on the lines of UML compliance and did not indicate a version preference.

I dont think one would/should loose marks for a requirement which is not explicit in the exam..

personally, i dont see UML version as a risk..as long as you state compliance to a specified version
