How data security is enforced in cloud environment?

Does cloud means completely replacing desktop clients?

I think it's more of a use of pooled computing resources (software/hardware etc...) so you still need desktop to use it...

If its pooled computing resources cant we access it directly without a desktop? That means it does not provide basic services?

It's possible by having a direct access, but I think it's main usage would be to have distributed access.
