could somebody please point me in the right direction?

I have an application with many JSP pages. I need to add support for internationalization.

Currently strings are just hard coded in the JSP pages in a single language.

Seems like gettext is useful for this task. Also I have found gettext-commons which includes some ant tasks.

If possible I'd like to extract the static strings from all JSP files and replace them with gettext placeholders.

Looks to me as if something like this needs to be inserted into the JSP pages, replacing the static text:

%{getText('This is some text')}

Will I have to edit the JSP pages manually or can it be done automatically, maybe using an ant task?

How can it be done most efficiently without manually editing alle the JSP pages?

PS: Also I need to suggest a tool to my client which he can use to edit the translations.
