Dear All,

I have been meaning to learn java for some time now. Yesterday I purchased the following textbook after hearing some good reviews
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Head-First-Java-Kathy-Sierra/dp/0596009208/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1292455916&sr=8-1

I have just realised that the book is now out of date and that Java has moved on from v5, which is discussed in this book.

Will this book still be a useful tool for learning Java? or should I buy something more recent?

My concern is that the textbook doesn't cover all of the new features available in Java 6, and that I will be learning outdated techniques.

Could someone please advise?

Regards,
Bren

Welcome to the ranch
The Second Edition is the latest. There aren't many notable differences between Java 5 and 6. Some of them are listed in this FAQ. Enjoy your book !

Thanks Christophe,

The book does look very good, I'm glad that it will still be relevant.

Cheers,
Bren
