I have faced this problem in Windows XP Professional. The problem is related to the version of Java and behavior of DirectX installed on your PC.

Type "dxdiag" from windows start-> run option. It will open up Microsoft DirectX diagnostics tool.

Go into the display tab and try disabling one of options by clicking "Disable XXX" button. This behavior is due to display acceleration on PC due to DirectX and JDK.

Let me know if this doesn't work for you. I can give you precise option on 11-27-2010.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
