I've never tried this so I thought I'd ask around before I start to perhaps spare myself from wasting too much time.

To be able to work remotely without having to rely on a VPN connection into my work box.
On my work box I'm running JBoss, Apache, Oracle and ATG on Ubuntu.

I'd like to be able to just move a copy of my entire OS, Apps and code onto a Ubuntu VM and house that on an external HD to take anywhere I need to work.

What I'd like to avoid is having to build a completely new dev environment on the VM if I can avoid it.

Any insights you can provide would be very appreciated.

Sure. I used to do this all the time with VmWare. Should work.

The only thing that I can think of, is that VmWare may complain that the hardware changed and ask if it is okay to regenerate a new id -- just answer yes.

Excellent - thank you

I run VMWare fusion on my Mac at home, at the office the Linux users run VirtualBox.
I've got to assume that there is a VMWare for Linux - I'm off to check it out.

I'm sure I'll have more questions.

Thanks again,
