Do Custom Tags need to be declared in the Deployment Descriptor?

Following is a question from Marcus Green's Mock exam:

Which of the following statements are true of custom tags that are created by extending the SimpleTagSupport class.

A. Such tags cannot have a bodycontent type of JSP
B. Such tags cannot have EL expressions in the body
C. Such tags cannot be deployed with attributes
D. Such tags do not need to to be configured in the deployment descriptor

The correct answer given as A only. I thought it would be A & D, since the tags would be configured in the tld file, not the DD.

Depends upon the version of JSP. After JSP 2.0, TLDs do not need to be declared in the deployment descriptor. Tags themselves, of course, are always declared in the TLD.
