Hello!

Last year I passed SCJP and started preparing for SCJD.
I saw that there is assignment (CX-310-252A) and then a separate exam of 4 questions to verify that you implemented the assgnment (CX-310-027).

I contacted the local Prometric partner and tried to contact the regional Oracle contact person (with no success), to ask them for a little more clarification about the whole exam. Do I pay once for both the assignment and the exam, how much should I pay? I didn't receive any answers.
As I browsed the Oracle web site, I understand that I should pay separately for both the assignment and the exam. So totally € 238 * 2 = € 476, which I think makes it the second most expensive Java certificate
Anyway, I also didn't see the assignment available for purchasing from Prometric. So I should purchase it from Oracle.

Could you confirm my information or correct it if it is wrong!

Thanks,
Atanas

Hi Atanas,

Welcome to the JavaRanch!

The SCJD assignment contains 2 parts: an assignment and an essay exam, and you have to pay both seperately, it's indeed an expensive certification (but maybe your employer can purchase it for you )
How to purchase each part I don't have a clue, because I did my assignment when it was still Sun (and it was purchased by my employer).

Kind regards,
Roel

The whole certification website is such a mess. Trying to find any information on the certification or sign up for is such a chore. I purchased a voucher from Oracle which took a few days to come through and then had to be emailed back to get it swapped for a replacement voucher. This replacement voucher is used on the Prometric web site to download the assignment.

I am expecting to have to purcahsed a second voucher for the written exam. as per this page (UK version).

Howdy, y'all.

I'd say that it depends... I think there's a procedure for each country.

Well, you're right. But champ, I totally encourage you. We have learned a lot from this certification. So it is totally worth it.

Thank you for your replies!

So money should be paid ..
At least now I know how to proceed.
We will see if my employer is willing to pay for it or not. Either way I know it is worth it, so I will try to pass it.

Nowadays you dont purchase vouchers separately, you just pay on the spot when you register, either for assignment (which is online through prometric) or for an exam appoinment (also prometric).

And yes, its pretty expensive, and I was a bit discouraged by this, since my employer has no intentions to pay for me. However, first of all this certificate proves that you can actually do some project, thus its a strong argument to have when necessary, plus Oracle classifies it as certified Master, thus its a higher level than certified Professional, so I'd say price should not be a concern, its definitely a worthy investment.

I just purchased the SJCD today. It is 310-252A. It took me a while to find the correct link. https://ibt1.prometric.com/index.asp?ibt=4481164813& or www.ibt.prometric.com/oracle. If your browser says this site certificate is wonky still proceed to the page. It is fine. The first part of the exam is a download which you have 2 hrs to download. After that the link is over. You need to download and save the assignment and the database file in this time. I saved the assignment particulars to a Wordperfect file by copy and paste as well as printing the file from the webpage. I saved multiple copies to make certain. When you get to the above mentioned link you must read the SCJD section and then click on the First-time Registration on the bottom left of the page. I made the mistake of looking in Prometric's website and wasted a bit of time before realizing the link was on this page. The print is misleading because the page is an Oracle page and it references Prometric in the paragraph. By going to the Link on the bottom left of the page you register, then pay and the download is then available.

I hope this helps.

Good luck to all.

Cheers,
Greg Funston SCJP
