Hi,

I've been trying to immerse myself in Java but all these acronyms are not sticking with me, and finding out what they mean is much more difficult than I think it should be. The same goes for Java-specific project or technology names. Is there a better reference (preferably electronic/online) for looking up all this stuff than a search engine and wikipedia?

I usually start with a search engine and it does a good job for many terms, but try these on Google:

Good:
JSP (Java Server Pages)
SCJP (Sun Certified Java Programmer)
SWT (Standard Widget Toolkit)

Harder:
JSF (Java Server Faces)
JCK (Java Compatibility Kit)
JSR (Java Specification Request)

What?
EDT (Event Dispatching Thread)
SAF (Swing Application Framework)

Reading about Swing stuff people throw out EDT a lot, but it took a while to figure out what they were talking about. Sometimes I get lucky and can find the answer by specifically searching on Wikipedia.

Is there a good Java term dictionary that pulls all this together? Somewhere I could search for any Java acronym or term and get Java specific results? Somewhere I could search for 338 or JSR 338 and get a link to JSR 338: JavaTM Persistence 2.1 on jcp.org as the first result? I'd love to search for JFrame and get the most recent, or preferred, Java version API doc at the top of the list.

I just want to have cake and eat it too.

I had seen the first and was disappointed that it didn't have EDT for example, but the second, that is great. I should nose around that site much more.

This isn't my ideal cake, but it's a good one and having and eating it.

Thank you,
