First of all, don't purchase a discount voucher a year in advance, you will be under pressure to take the exam within a limited time.

If you are new to Java, read Head First Java by Sierra/Bates. Otherwise you can read SCJP 6, also by Sierra/Bates.

Go through the hands-on example of understanding the code. Mock exams! Please study these. This link has one of many discussion on Mock Exams.

Also, visit these boards a lot. If someone has a SCJP question that you can answer, please try to do so

There are so many things, just go through the messages on this board.

Welcome to Java Ranch!

You can find some more useful information on ScjpFaq and a list of all free and commercial mock exams on ScjpMockTests

Hi all, thanks to you Sarah for that advice you gave to nsk, I am new to java too and was about asking the same question.

I have scjp 6, K&B, and about to get the Head First Java. If I may ask how long from now would you advice me to take the scjp 6 exam and how do I go about the registration?

Welcome to JR Vincent. Please start a separate thread when you have a new question to ask.

How long it takes really depends on the person in question. Some are able to do it in a month and others require 3-4 months. As for registration, contact a prometric center.
