Hi,

I was wondering, in starting to learn Android development, what kind of application should I start trying to create? Is it for touch phones or for keypad phones?
Thanks for the response, It will be highly appreciated.

Android OS is mostly available on touchscreen phones (they sometimes have keypad too). But that shouldn't change the way you create applications, how the user will input text or press buttons is handled by Android itself. You can try out simple applications like a calculator or notes manager (or any other application which allows users to add/remove items in a list) etc. Then try to add features to it like preferences, handling UI rotation, save data in DB and so on...

All the "hot" Android phones have touch screens.

Hi Jan,

Personally I do feel that you should develop application that support Touch. Usually major devices are coming with Touch sensors, so you can target the major area.
Once you are done with Touch same app should be make compatible to Keypad operations.

as far as i am concern they are alike and since smartphones are today's device no need of a stylus just your finger and everything else in the development should be easy since it is always supported with touch unless you have a hardware that needed something else?
