Their is many mobile platforms available today like
- Symbian os
- palm web os
- ios (Iphone)
- BlackBerry
- Android

Which is best and has the future . I know all depends on requirements.

But I wants to know which platform you prefer and why ?

The "best" platform and the one with the brightest future depends on whom you ask. It's probably not Symbian, however. The Symbian Foundation announced last November that it was going to shut down its websites and source code repositories on December 17, 2010. This has already been done (developer.symbian.org is no longer), and the Foundation has announced that it is "transitioning the foundation from a non-profit organisation responsible for governing the open development and curation of the Symbian platform, to a licensing entity with no permanent staff. Moving forward, the foundation will be responsible only for specific licensing and legal frameworks put in place during the open sourcing of the platform."

+1

My impression (or maybe prediction) is that Android and iOS are on the way up, BlackBerry is at best stagnating, and Symbian, WebOS and Windows Phone are going to decline or disappear altogether in the medium to long term. MeeGo won't go much of anywhere to begin with.

As to iOS vs. Android, see Mark's post in another topic. I chose Android since I knew Java but not Objective-C, and severely dislike the amount of control Apple is exercising in the iTunes App Store. I'm not trying to make a living through mobile apps, though; if I was it would be a different calculation (though not necessarily with a different outcome).

I would suggest looking at this article
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/31/canalys-android-overtakes-symbian-as-worlds-best-selling-smart/

Right now Android has taken over the position as the worlds best selling platform.

Ulf,

Dont ask look at the numbers. Android is dominant mostly because vendors and developers are not restricted by Apple. Apple is a powerful influence and player but because of their business model many vendors, developers, and customers will not or cannot use their products.

Blackberry has a very strong position in the business world but one only has to look at the Playbook, see http://us.blackberry.com/playbook-tablet/, to see what direction Blackberry is thinking; Android.

ya every one knows today android has the wide area and the functionality capabilities. The main advantage of using android that we don't have to limited to a particular vendor like blackberry and ios.

But I likes Ios too cause it provides great functionality and wide range of API. everyone knows that android has the future.

Let's talk about the comparisons among them advantages and disadvantages.

Good discussion. Is there a possibility that we can write a mobile apps that can be installed on phones of multiple OS. Is there anyone working on such a framework ?

The AndroidFaq points to the Rhodes and Titanium Mobile frameworks which attempt to do exactly that.

Shocking to know symbian is no longer active. I thought the OS was from Nokia.

Looking at the current trend I would suggest either Android or iOS (iPhone) for mobile app development.

Thanks & Regards

Nobody is saying they don't. My prediction is that Symbian will not be a major player in the smartphone market, and smartphones are predicted to be 50% of the all new phone worldwide within a couple of years. Rumors are flying that Nokia may ditch Symbian (and MeeGo) in favor of Android or Windows Phone, now that they have a new CEO.

Lots many underground research and technologies are in queue and ongoing for mobile platform enhancement., so to predict future its really complex.

I have remind a nice quote - Competition is the mother of all inventions. This is 100% affecting to Mobile platform.
