urlrewrite, size of rules xml

I figured that I would have to insert like 50000 rules into xml, for starter(programaticaly of course).
Anyone has any expirience, would that affect speed of things in general, or is it better to do that in server side logic ?

I think the default rule set is all you will require? I don't think the intention is to write a ton of your own rules..
 
Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
