The Webstart window opens always in the top left corner of the screen when I launch my application. Is there any way to change the position of the window etc. from JNLP and/or the Java App?

I wouldn't think that WebStart differs from other Swing apps; try this code:

Perhaps you didn't write any code to call that method, then?

There could be another option to check out. If you application hard codes the size fo buttons etc and is maintained to work on maximized version.
Right click on desktop shortcut icon of you web start app and in properties say run in maximized mode. It could help you run application in max mode by default.
