java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org.apache.commons.digester.Rule

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
We are getting this error message at runtime. We are using iText-2.1.7.jar, jasperreports-3.5.3.jar, & commons-digester-2.0.jar files for a Weblogic Portal app on an AIX server. The files above are deployed as shared libraries on the server. There's a JasperHelper function that we've created within a Common.jar file that calls the JasperReport classes. Within this Common.jar file we also have the iText-2.1.7.jar, jasperreports-3.5.3.jar, & commons-digester-2.0.jar files under the lib directory. The jar files are all there, but why can't it find the org.apache.commons.digester classes? Thanks.

NoClassDefFoundError can often be resolved by correcting the classpath, but that is generally due to synching classes. Multiple jars or paths with multiple versions of a class, or multiple class loaders (which servlet and JEE engines often use) can also cause the error. So, anything that makes runtime classes different from the compilation environment can cause NoClassDefFoundError.
