The usual Tomcat installation comes with plenty of examples - both servlets and jsp - have you studied those?

What the does that mean?

If you have installed a normal version of Tomcat it will include lots of examples. Study the code in those examples to quickly learn the basics of servlets and jsp - thats what I recommend to all beginners.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
