Hi,
I am trying for Junior developer position. Will having a certification like SCWCD make any difference in getting interviews or not? Please let me know your opinions.
Of course, every certification will help to improve your chances on a succesfull job-interview.
In my opinion the Sun-series, nowadays the Oracle-series, of certifications are very well respected.
You mention that you want to go for junior-developer. When it means you don't have any practice
or experience as a developer, then the OCWCD-course will be maybe like memorizing a phone-book,
which is not a pleasant thing to do.
Thanks for your response. I have undergone a training in which we did a project using most of the Java technologies, so I have good understanding in programming. Without that , I don't think memorizing would be possible with such a vast coverage of topics in this certification. This has double the no. of chapters comparing to SCJP. yeah, when I first bought the book, which was a few years ago, I thought that its simply impossible to pass this certification. Now I am very close to taking the certification. Hoping to pass it. Any last minute tips??
Tomorrow will be my big important day of fortune! certification-day!
I guess last minute there will be nothing else to do then relax, do some freewheeling through the book,
enjoy some api's (...) and have a good-night sleep.
Wishing you all the best. I have 1 more week for the certification. Just curious, Are you taking OCWCD or some other certification? Please share, if you don't mind.
Nope, since Oracle took over Sun, there is just the OCWCD, but no worries,
all stays the same. Exam objectives did not change (if you are preparing for SCWCD EE5)
And, by the way, exam objectives for 1.5 are the same as for 1.4....
Congratulations, Bert. How were the questions? pretty easy to figure out or real brainers?? Did you practice any mock exam softwares , the ones like the real exam? If so, comparing to that, how were the real questions? Also, once you select the answer and move to the next qn, will you be able to revisit it again? Sorry about bothering you with all these qns? I just want to pass it in my first attempt.
Congrats, once again.
As Kathy and Bert advise, it is best to take the final Mock exam from the HF-book at the end.
It is more dificult then the real exam. In the real exam however, some questions are easy,
but most of them need deduction. It will come in handy if you have a basic understanding
of how things work. Besides that you will need to learn a lot at heart.
I took a subscription on Enthuware's mock-questions, which was a help in getting
the basic understanding of web-components in their different aspects.
In the end, take every question as it comes and find the right answer.
Every correct answer counts.
At the end, and every time you feel like, you can review all the questions and answers.
Be carefull, there are also drag and drop-questions. When you re-open the drag and drop-screen,
the allready given answers disappear!!
The tool to take the exam is very simple and clear, I am sure you wont have any problems with it.
Ah yes, before starting the exam, you will sign a paper, promising not to discuss the questions in public.
So, I can not tell you anything about the questions. This way, accomplishing the exam stays an accomplishment!
Thanks a lot Bert for your reply and Congrats for getting a wonderful score !!
So, syllabus for OCWCD is same as SCWCD, good to know that because I had started with Head First already. Any other tutorial or mock exams' links you referred would be really helpful. Thanks again for your help !
All the best!
Thanks for taking the time to send such a detailed mail. Ofcourse, I was not hoping to hear the real qns from you, just wanted to know how it is comparing to the mock exams. Its been a while since I took SCJP. In SCJP, I 'marked' most of the qns and had a hard time figuring out which ones I really had to check again. Thats why I wanted to know if there are options to check the qns again. I am practicing enthuware too. Good that someone told me abt enthuware. Just by reading the book, its impossible to pass. I will share my experience too( provided that I am not too depressed, in case things go wrong, which I believe will not) )
I passed OCWCD. I scored only 75%. Should have prepared more and practiced more enthuware questions. I got some qns same from enthuware, but unfortunately, I couldn't remember the answers. Anyway, I am just glad that I passed. Now I can continue with my job hunt. I can't tell you how proud I am to put the logo on my resume.
