servlet in spring .

previously I did some programming in struts. now I will do in spring.
my 1st question is : Do i need to make a servlet here ? because in struts it was the front controller that gets generated .

Generated ? You still have to make your controllers. In Spring MVC, the front controller is the DispatchServlet, which delegates to request to your controllers.
