Any experiences on Java Advanced Imaging(JAI)/ImageIO and Swing Combination are helpful?

Any inputs/references/success stories are helpful?

ImageIO is just a means to read and write images from/to streams and files; it really has no close connection to Swing.

JAI does actual image processing, but that, too, is not closely related to Swing. (And it should be noted that the JAI library is dead for all practical purposes; I'd be hesitant to build any new development on it.)

Is there anything in particular you're interested in?

Thanks Ulf for the info.

Is there any other API other than JAI for the image processing? Basically, I am looking for an API that has advanced imaging processing functionality. Any thoughts are helpful.

By any chance, are there any open sources available as libraries that uses Swing and JAI (or any advanced imaging API) combination which can be reused?

I think ImageJ is a very decent API (and application) that is actively being developed. The app uses AWT, not Swing, but the underlying API would work equally well with either.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
