Hi Allan,

I am sorry to hear that you failed your exam, but thanks for sharing it with us: it takes a lot of courage!

My advise: don't give up, and by the Enthuware mock exams.

Make sure you do all the mock-exams and you are well prepared for the exam. The questions are really simular to the real exam questions and they cover all the subjects well. Read the explanations that they give on your wrong answers and go back to the topic in your book or look it up in the specs. Write lots of small pieces of code at home until you are comfortable on a subject. If you fail the mock exams, do them again until you pass them. There are some simple API questions on the exam: make sure you don't miss them next time (it is just a matter of cramming, maybe you want to use my notes for that )

Regards and good luck on your next attempt!
Frits

Hi Frits,

I was wondering how people got 90+% or even 100% correct.

Anyway, my results are skewed. I got over 77% for Declarations, Initailization and Scoping and Fundamentals but got < 25% for Collections/Generics and Concurrency.

I guess that were the hard parts. I have to blame myself for walking into the exam and not knowing what is <T extends SomeClass> means and all that polymorphism. I thought it wouldn't matter as they have a few questions on that, but I was wrong. It dragged down my score.

Anyway, I will try again...not sure if I should wait for the Java 7 exam.

Java 7 exam would take some time to be released. So you might sit back and review your weak areas and then prepare those areas.

Hi Alan,
In my experience Collections, Generics, and Concurrency are some of the most important areas of Java and are favourite interview topics as well! The rest will give you a firm understanding of the language and a good base to build on should you want to make a career out of it...saying that I have never used the regex stuff in 10 years of Java development and have yet to hear an interview question on it.....

As has been said, use the mock exams that are out there to get a feel for the questions, some are very sneaky so read them carefully and make sure you are clear on what is being asked. Also use the JavaRanch Rules Roundup game, it helped me.

Don't give up, passing is a good feeling!

don't give up
study again.focus on your weak points .
solve a lot of exams
and write every simple program to test every small topic by your hand .dont rely on IDE for that.
trust yourself .and you will pass .
post any question on forum and you will get excellent information about it.

Thanks for the post...I'm scheduled to take the exam in less than 48 hrs and while I'm feeling the strain, I know that if I fail it's only an opportunity for me to grow even stronger
in the language. Keep your chin up and press on!
