5 dollars aren't an astronomical price but Xcode should remain free for all. people will unleash their Torrent.
Sorry, but anytime someone says "Xyz should be free for all" I will roll my eyes. No one is entitled to free anything. There's tons of free stuff out there, and that is magnanimous in the extreme -- but too often it gives people a sense of entitlement and they expect it all the time.
GCC is packaged in Xcode, why I have to pay for it (GCC is vital not only for Objective-C but to many programming languages)?
Not to mention that Objective-C is gaining massive mind share, Apple should (IMO) embrace developers and gaining new ones.
Maybe Xcode 4 for OS X -Pre Lion- is just like FaceTime application, free for OS X Lion but paid for previous releases.
