I have custom tag, which has two parameters name param1 and param2
<myTag:compare param1="<bean : write " param2="<bean : write "

Above doesn't seem to work. I believe because it becomes nested tag. is there a way to resolve this without using scriptlet?

Generally speaking,it does not work to nest one custom tag inside another. If your web container supports JSP 2.0, you could use an EL expression here:

<myTag:compare param1="${param.abc}" param2="${param.def}" />
