I had been preparing for the exam with frequent interruptions for around 6 months. I really recommend reading charles Lyton book after completing Head First Servlets and JSP . Charles Lyton would be like reading the spec itself

Watch For:
1. Concentrate on Design patterns Easy marks
2. Next big thing is security auth constraint etc
3.Then Tag files
4. Jsp standard Action
5.Other topics should be easy

All the best for aspirants

So would you recommend reading the specs instead of Charles Lyton?

Definitely not . I just wanted to put forward that it might not be as interesting as Head First but after reading Head First you would get lot of information from this book which would be organized like spec style . Specs are too much information which might help us in the long run [Just My view]
