Can anyone let me know which was introduced first? JSPs or Servlets?
Reason for introducing the latter?

Thanks

Servlets were first; there was no JSP to go along with Servlet API 1.0. See http://raibledesigns.com/rd/entry/the_history_of_jsp for a rough timeline.

I suspect the reason for adding the JSP scripting approach was the success of Microsoft's ASP Active Server Pages - Java needed a comparable offering for people put off by servlet programming.
