Hi friends,
How are you all? i have been learning java almost one year, i still do not even know how to write methods with parameters, i do not know when to call methods, when to call objects, how to use it when i need, some times instance variables used to call objects, some times also for methods, some times i get errors, every time i try to do somthing in java i get stuck, i feel soo upset, i skip where i got stuck and keep going and i again get stuck, i come back to first place i got stuck and will remain there, feeling like java does not sink in me. i do not know how can i break the barier with this java thing. This became a depression kind of thing in my life. I won't get depressed even if my girl friend leaves me, but if i can not do java program i get soo depressed. Because of this java i am stuck in my life. This is what i feel like. To make my life simple and easy, i need to write programs, i have to write programs, but i can not write one. no one i can ask, in person. This forums are good, but bits and pices of information, i can not digest here and there. I understand few things,, few things i don't. I am loosing my hope.... Guys Help me, Tell me How do i learn this stuff.

The only way to learn is to practice. Start with something simple. Get a good book, and follow along. Type in the examples they give, and see how they work. experiment by slightly changing the code, and see what happens.

Learning a computer language is not easy. People spend years and decades becoming good programmers.

Ask questions here. I would say DON'T skip when you don't understand something, but find someone or somewhere you can ask questions. That is what we like doing around here.

Hi fred,

Thank you soo much. I love you. After reading your reply, i took little deep breath. Got some hope, i will try again with fresh and new energy, let me see how it goes. The funny thing is that, i got a job as java programmer, some how i mugged up few things, here and there, learned interview questions. But now i am scared about job. I don't wana loose it. Its nice. I don't no lot of things. I need to understand lot of programming. I need to code by myself. With out others help this is my dream. I hope i reach there. But, java is really killing my time, energy, and patience.

Thank you sooo much.

Mezan,

Not to be too stressful. You will realize that at this point of time, you are not just learning about the programming language itself, but the ability to handle stress, the ability to pick up knowledge by yourself and also learn to be patient and persistence. All this are the characteristics of a good programmer.

Good luck and enjoy the process.

Hi mazen.....

Why this much fear about java....You have to be very proud to be a java programmer, because java programmers are the real programmers...
If you want to learn a programming language you have to know how to play with codes....
because even a small 5 lines of code can confuse you like anything...
So avoid fear try coding by your own, remove fear, feel proud definitely you will become a successful java programmer..

I have felt and still feel the same sometimes, Java is tough to learn but on the other hand if it were easy everyone would do it!! Sometimes just standing back and taking a break
will help too. Take a day off and enjoy the day , then come back to your PC and give it a fresh start once again.
I think a little learned but learned fully , everyday is better than trying to cram too much in all at once and not getting it at all.

As far as a good book i find "Java how to program" a very good book with good examples that work properly.and very well organized.

I also find that if i am really tired the best thing is to stop because i usually just make goofy mistakes i will have to fix the next day anyway
