Hi Prashant,
Dont let the 3 year gap get your confidence down, it is perfectly all right to take a sabbatical for family reasons.dont be let down with it , its not the end of the world if 2-3 companies do not consider your profile because of the gap.there are others who might consider your profile. infact , i too have a 3 year gap in my career, i have a total of 4 yrs experience in java/j2ee, but had to go back to my hometown because my father was suffering from kidney failure , couldnt continue work in bangalore as i though being with family at this time of crisis would be a better option ( couldnt do bangalore - kolkata with a full time job) , i had initially planned for a 1 year break in career but as things turned out it became 2 yrs and then 3 , but all this while i didnt stay off with my programming skills , i kept learning new skills and enhancing my previous skills, , its been 45 days since i started looking for a job and attending interviews , the initial 3-4 interviews were bad , but then after that i got a grip( since i have been out of touch for quite a while) and then the interviews were the easiest to clear, now i have 3 offers in hand , all from big MNC's in bangalore, i can go in for more interviews and ask for a better pay package but i guess i need some rest and freaking around till i start with my new job.
So baseline is to be very good with all the skills you mention in your resume(know them ouside down) and be confident when you answer about your break, say that your sabbatical was a planned decision .
hope this helps , if you need advise on the stuff you require to prepare for interviews PM me and i will send you some documents and .pdf files which might help you with types of question you can be asked, i have sort of consolidated list of questions and my corrrect answers along with the questions. set up a time line for preparation and a time line for starting taking interviews and then hit it off, there are thousands jobs out there ,and you just need one.....go for it man....
Regards
Asif
