Hi all, I'm new to Java so please bear with me. I'm trying to make a simple applet to display an image in its background. The background is fetched to from an external URL (using java.net.URL). Loading and painting the image is not a problem, however the image gets painted when all data bytes are received. I would like to know whether I can render my image progressively as it is fetched from the URL (like in Firefox top-down fashion rendering). I looked in many APIs, however I didn't find a straight-forward of implementing it. I would greatly appreciate if anyone can help. THanks

I can't decide if this thread would do better in our Applets forum or our Swing forum. Oh, well, let's give it a try in Applets.

The problem is not applet related, as the same behaviour can be replicated in a conventional java program.
