Hi
I recently installed tomcat 5.5 in my Sony Laptop(Windows 7 home premium 64 bit,Intel i3,4GB RAM) and i am new to Tomcat server.
I downloaded the core distribution Windows Service Installer (pgp, md5) from http://tomcat.apache.org/download-55.cgi
Installed it in the following directory C:\Tomcat
Gave a environment variable setting as TOMCAT_HOME and value c:\Tomcat
My JAVA_HOME is set to C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_23

I am able to start and stop the Server by clicking Monitor Tomcat and giving start and stop
But when i try to access the hostmanager, manager,or welcome page i am getting the following error

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Help will be greatly appreciated
Thanks and Regards
Ram

What URL are you using to request?

I believe the standard 5.5 download is configured to listen to port 8080 so a simple request without specifying port will get an error.

Try http://localhost:8080/

Hi Bill
Thanks for the advice it worked, but I have a doubt.
I have installed Oracle 10g Express edition at the port 8080,so during installation of Tomcat I gave the port number as 8081.
When I try http://localhost:8080/ or http://127.0.0.1:8080/ I am getting Oracle Database 10g Express Edition License Agreement page
But as you mentioned when I try http://localhost:8081/ I get the Tomcat page, but when i try http://127.0.0.1:8081/ i am getting Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage, why is it so?

Thanks and Regards
Ram

I just encountered the same problem because I too have Oracle 10g Express installed. To solve the problem:

1. stop tomcat
2. stop oracle server
3. stop listener
4. restart tomcat
5. restart oracle server
6. restart oracle listener

You should see the tomcat welcome page on port 8080. I did.
