ok, i've read different articles that talk about development of Swing will be stopped. So, what will be a current alternative to use in place of Swing?

I'm so confused and feel so behind with all the different technologies... EJB, Hibernate, JBOSS... always feel paralized at all the options.

What do you recommend on using for a multi-threaded, multi-user, distributed application should use for GUI and database development?

Thanks!

Why would you have to choose something to use instead of Swing?

I keep hearing that Swing is not thread safe...etc... and that the project is still early enough for analysis of alternatives.

Looks like you just started laying your hands on Java Development. I'd say create a simple web application, the frontend technology could be anything that you could think of. Think of JSP's as a starting point. Start with plain ol' JDBC to get a good understanding of things.

Well, while Swing does have many methods that are not thread safe, you can write a top notch thread safe multi threaded application with Swing too.
