hi guys

what is the advantages of using GUI(web application) to interact with database instead of using database directly for those employees who have no professional training of how to use database?

thank you

I don't see a normal secretary typing "insert into users values "Peter", "Pan", "10-10-1972". Which is a very simple query. More complex queries are undoable for non-programmers. Besides from the security aspects.

Sorry, I was just joking.

The basic idea behind SQL was that the business user would be able to query the database himself in english-like sentences.

This idea completely failed. The problem is not the query syntax alone but the need for understanding the relational model and how the business model was modeled in the ER, which business/end users typically don't learn (for whatever reasons). So today we are stuck with a language that was made for the end user but can only be used by a technical guy.

But it works quite well this way.
