deleting huge database

Hi All,

My Application requires deleteing of a databse for about zise of 2 TB.can you tell me any secure way of that means to delete the database permantly from SQL SERVER 2000.

Not sure if you can delete a DB via JDBC -that would in any case be dependent on which DB server you're using- but you can drop all individual tables via DROP TABLE XYZ (and you can get the names of all tables from a DatabaseMetaData object).

By secure, do you mean so the data is gone? Dropping the tables deletes from the database, but the data still exists on disk until it is overridden. Which is very difficult without destroying the hard drive.

Just curious, what kind of application requires dropping a database of 2TB? To what purpose does it serve?

The application is getting decommission means its moving to .net with new database and evrything new so what wants to drop the databse

If it is for a one time database migration, you can run the commands to delete the database from the database command line instead of using JDBC.
