Mr. Zechner,

I have an interest in game development in general. Android is as good a place to start as any. Does your book cover a lot of concepts that apply to game design in general, not just to Android in particular? Are similar or identical Java APIs to the ones you use available in the Java SDK or any open source or low cost non-Android Java libraries?

Thanks for your time.

The book tackles game development very generically. All the things you learn can be easily applied to other platforms as well. In terms of libraries you could check out libgdx which is similar in spirit to the framework that's being developed in the book.
