Once in a while I like to share some of my artwork with y'all. It's been quite a while since I did anything in graphite, but I picked it up again this week with some moderate success, and I thought I'd share.

Very nice, EFH. Is there a medium you haven't tried?

I'm a little shy about oil paint, what with the fumes and the cadmium and lead pigments. There are plenty of things left to try, don't worry about that!

I dabbled in oils long ago. Been many many years since I've tried my hand at anything artistic.

Indeed. She's actually a floral-wreath vendor at a Renaissance Fair. The title is a very weak sort of double-entendre.

Thanks. I used wooden artist's pencils, which are similar to best-quality office pencils, except they come in different hardnesses. If you look at an office pencil, it'll almost certainly have "HB" written on it. An HB pencil is a pencil of average hardness, and so it creates lines of average density. Pencils range all the way from 8H (very hard, which makes virtually invisible lines) down to 8B (very soft, which makes heavy, black lines like a Sharpie). For this portrait I used five grades: 4H, 2H, HB, 2B, and 8B.

There's also special paper (heavy weight, acid-free, no watermark, very even texture) and special erasers (actually I use blue "poster putty" like Blu-Tak for this).

Okay EFH, you motivated me to look through my closet (easy) and then figure out how to post an image (hard):

Here's an Android-quality picture of an oil painting I did at a painting workshop I once took on the Big Island. The workshop was held by a friend of mine, Robert Venosa, who's a pretty darned good painter.

(I got the model out of the United Airlines flight mag )
