Lucene: is it possible to search with an error in one letter?

I have a document with text "pencil". I want to search it using query "pencel". Or vica versa.
Is it possible ?

What you are looking for is called "phonetic search". Yes, it is possible with Lucene. An implementation can be found here: http://www.tangentum.biz/en/products/phonetix/faqs/index.html (haven't tried it myself but it's what you are looking for)

There's no need for a 3rd party add-on. Check the query syntax for fuzzy searches.
