SAP vs Java?

Hello All,

I like to discuss about some of the technologies which are booming up today, especially SAP and Java. I have 1.5 years exp. in Java and J2EE technologies.

I got an opportunity to work with SAP technologies as fresher, so I shifted to SAP, but not complete SAP domain, just as a support.

And here comes the scenario.

1. I am in SAP IDOC monitoring support project (which does not have much future) and I have to wait for 3 more years to get into SAP ABAP (which have great future).

2. As I have 1.5 years of experience in Java and J2EE technologies, there is an opportunity for me to grew up with some higher level of postings(team lead, tech. lead etc).

I have discussed with my friends about this topic, but I cannot get stable answers.

I came to know that we can earn more salary in SAP technology than JAVA.

Now I am little bit confused, whether to continue with SAP technology or with Java technology, as I have both opportunities.

Could you please advice..

Its great that you got opportunity to work in SAP
If i am at your place i will continue working with Java and will try to gain more and more proficency in it.

Because working me in SAP & leaving java will put me to the ground.

Even I thought the same in a way you think. But I came to know some freaky things, that we earn more salary in SAP than Java, that put me in dilemma situation (as money is an important factor everyone).

Your hapines is more important..If you are happy with your job then i think Java peoples also earn 1 lakh per month..
I have seen testing people earning a handsome package and geting lots of onsite opportunity..

So for me my happiness is more important rather then money..

If you have interest in SAP then go for SAP or If you have interest in Java then go for Java

My way of thinking is as follows
Suppose if I get more salary in SAP than Java still I will prefer to be with Java because I have interest in Java.
You will get money in both SAP and Java, so I would say continue a field in which you have interest than money, you will definitely excel in field of your interest.

And what if your interest in a technology is based on the possible compensation (aka money) that you may be able to achieve if you know it well?

Thanks guys. I got some good Ideas from you all. Now I think its better for me to shift back to Java again.
