how to be lead in problem solving?

hi,
i want to know how to solve the task, and can any body tell me.how exactly projects starts and how to be lead in this.i know SDLC.currently i am working with ems project so i didnt get any task. if i get how can i resolve that.AS per my knowledge overview on code first.but overview in the sense how can i start. i started with login page but keep on getting next pages i am unable to find classes with url(what i am getting in http).what shall i do.

if any body have real time exporsure on ems let me help please.
