If I have the following code in my simpleResource class

it returns "String returned from handler" to the browser, no surprises there.

However if I uncomment the code shown to set some value in the response object

it now returns "some stuff added to the response" to the browser,
So question is, what is going on? the second code sample returns the same string but because I modified the response myself it ignores what string is returned from the method. Actually, how does the string I return from the handler actually find it's way into the response in the first place? I assume it's the Restlet framework that is doing this?
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
