Most folks are either into java or .net. I dont see much jobs for ruby, python and scala. Why are they less popular ?
Is java, c# etc better than these ?
I want to learn them later. How do i choose from them ?

Hi,
there's heaps of Ruby on Rails jobs, paying even more than java in some opportunities.
It's worth to get to know these languages.
You should check it out for yourself on those sites like dice dot com. search for ruby on rails and you'll see.
The last one showed me 647 RoR jobs!

What about scala and python ? Any important/popular code written in those languages and the job-market ?

Python is used heavily at Google. I'd say that is a pretty good thumbs-up;)

I'm not sure if you count LinkedIn, Twitter and Foursquare as important, but they all use Scala substantially. I won't claim that there are a ton of jobs in Scala, but I think those indicate that 'popular' code has been written in Scala.

At my small company, one of our main products has a decent amount of Scala code.

no skepticism. Just wanted a nice graph showing the demand or "BigCompany changes to ruby"....stuff like that. I had seen one for java script long ago.
Thanks for replying.
