I started with the book "Hibernate in Action". Good introduction to the framework with simple examples

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hibernate-Action-Practical-Relational-Mapping/dp/193239415X/ref=sr_1_6?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1308437437&sr=1-6

Then I read "Java Persistence with Hibernat" the absolute reference that covers all the issues you may come accross

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Java-Persistence-Hibernate-Christian-Bauer/dp/1932394885/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1308437437&sr=1-1

Enjoy ;-)
