It's probably a personal preference and/or your career expectations.
Personally I think it's better to have at least one developer level certification before SCEA so that it gives you some confidence at the developer level where you specialized some of the core technologies involved in SCEA. SCEA covers the entire JEE stack so you need to have a thorough knowledge to go for it.
Thanks a lot for the advice. I am currently working on Web Services and related technologies. So, I shall probably go ahead and start preparing for the OCPJ - Web Services Certification.
IMHO Certifications is just like doing a Phd. It is said that 'All Ph.d. holder are not intelligent and all intelligent are not an Ph.d. holder. But if you want make your profile heavy or impress the resume picker that you must go for these certification also it will give you confidence on the technology.
