I have some questions about the deployment diagram and i would appreciate some help:
1) When representing Nodes, for example the server machine, I give the node the name : Sun SPARC with prototype <<device>>, the application server node with name: WebLogic with stereotype <<application server>>, operating system node with name: Sun Solaris and stereotype <<OS>>, etc .... I'm using actual names and stereotype for the type of the node. Is this right or wrong ?
2) Suppose I'm using a server machine(ex: Sun SPARC) that supports Zones, and every Zone has its own OS, ex: Server machine with 2 OS Nodes. Can I show that in my diagram?
3) Suppose that my Application server (ex: WebLogic) has an embedded LDAP server, how can I show that I'm using LDAP as a registry for authentication and authorization? or should I show it as a separate Node outside ?
I don´t know the right way, but I am naming my node with the name of the server IBM web server, WAS 7.0 and IBM DB2 and stereotype <<server>> for either web, app and db server.
To sum up my questions: should our deployment diagram be general or specific to the hardware we are using ? please guys read my earlier posts to know what I'm looking for.
i would recommend against putting details in the diagram.
Here is what you can do - mention hardware profiles...of individual boxes..."<<hardware profile A>>" in your diagram...and then in your notes you could explain that one of the concrete specifications for hardware profile A is ....
It helps your diagram remain generic..and also allows you to explain that your hardware specification is just one of the many possible options...
